Canton, MA Considers E-Cig Ban

The Board of Health of Canton, Massachusetts is meeting today to decide whether to completely ban electronic cigarettes from that city.

According to Canton Public Health Director John Ciccotelli, electronic cigarettes are “just another nicotine delivery program that would circumvent rules about getting cigarettes to kids.”

“We don’t want to … chase [kids] into a nicotine delivery product, of which e-cigarettes is one.”

-John Ciccotelli

The ban will be one of the items under consideration at a hearing at the Canton city hall at 7:00pm tonight.

While the board is also considering raising the legal smoking age to 21, they are not proposing any kind of ban on traditional cigarettes.

Yeah, this is definitely not a precedent I’d like to see set. The last thing anyone needs is cities getting the idea this sort of thing makes sense.
