E-Cigarettes Not Sexy Enough?
In an editorial from The UK’s Telegraph, U.S. historian Dr. Tim Stanley explains why cigarettes “will never catch on.”
“I’m consigning the e-cigarette to the dustbin of all the other politically correct ideas that just don’t contain enough poison or disregard for the lives of others to catch on – bicycle helmets, electric cars and vegan food.”
Stanley apparently is so concerned with the past that he’s failed to notice that electronic cigarettes have become a billion dollar a year industry that’s growing fast.
According to Stanley, electronic cigarettes just aren’t sexy enough to become popular. “They sound like a kazoo,” he says, “and there’s nothing seductive about blowing a kazoo in someone’s face.”
Meanwhile, bicycle helmets, electric cars and vegan food all set record sales numbers last year, with even bigger numbers expected in 2013.
Perhaps he’s right. After all, nothing says “cool” and “sexy” like “historian.”
