Imperial Tobacco to Launch E-Cig

The UK’s Imperial Tobacco Group, the world’s fourth largest cigarette producer and the largest producer of cigars, cut tobacco and rolling papers, has joined a growing list of Big Tobacco firms entering the electronic cigarette market with the announcement of a new e-cigarette to be launched in 2014.

CEO Alkison Cooper says this has been one of the tobacco conglomerate’s “toughest, if not the toughest” years, and the company hopes the extra revenue from the new products will boost its bottom line.

Recent estimates put the number of electronic cigarette users in the UK at 1.3 million, nearly double the number from last year.

Imperial will have some catching up to do. Their largest UK competitor, British American Tobacco, launched an e-cigarette named Vype last month, and BAT’s director of corporate affairs, Kingsley Wheaton, says “Our declared intent is to be the leading player in that business.”

Excellent. Be interesting to know if it’s as good as the Vype. :-)

  • Jack Pappas

As good as the Vype? The Vype Sucks. It has little to no flavor and is expensive as hell compared to even an eGo.
It ‘looks’ like a cig. And that is about all it is good for.

the Vype is old technology in a new packet, there were better devices on the market 6 years ago.
