LA Times Tells Vapers’ Stories

While quick to point to a lack of “actual science,” the L.A. Times explores the use of electronic cigarettes as a means to quit smoking.

“We don’t look at it as a smoking cessation device. We never want to quit our morning coffee and vape.”

-John “JJ” Jenkins

Despite the disclaimer, the article is a mostly positive piece that tells the stories of several vapers, including L.A. Vapers Club founder Darrin Gold and Vapor Spot owner John “JJ” Jenkins, and how they’ve replaced a smoking habit with vaping.

The counterpoint comes from Linda Sarna, a member of the committee responsible for enacting a ban on vaping on the UCLA campus, who says the lack of published scientific evidence that electronic cigarettes help people quit makes them “snake oil.”
